Tourist Spots

Emeril's
BAM! No surprise here, just wonderful Cajun/Creole/French cuisine.  The celebrity status of Chef Legasse attracts many diners to his flagship restaurant, so make your reservations as far in advance as possible.  Expect to pay about $50 per person.  Jacket and tie are recommended for gentlemen.
800 Tchoupitoulas Street • Tel 504.528.9393

Acme Oyster House
Lovers of freshly shucked oysters from near and far come to the Acme Oyster House in the French Quarter.  A variety of other traditional New Orleans fare is served including po boys (sandwiches) and gumbos. The décor and t-shirt sales give a touristy aspect to the place, but the nicely priced oysters attract a lot of locals too.  Whether ordering a gumbo or a couple dozen oysters you should spend around $15 per person
724 Iberville Street • Tel 504.522.5973

Ralph and Kacoo’s
Fine dining is all well and good, but there are times a person just wants to hoist a few beverages and enjoy a big plate of something fried.  Ralph and Kacoo’s is a fine restaurant for those occasions and it’s conveniently located in the French Quarter.  With a variety of other options besides fresh fish and reasonable prices, it’s a good restaurant for a casual family meal or large group get-together.

Local Favorites

Clancy’s
Despite being off the beaten path, Clancy’s is a New Orleans favorite. Located in the Audubon Park area, the restaurant is well known for hearty portions of Creole influenced seafood and it’s elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere.  Calling ahead for directions is a good idea since parking isn’t easy to come by in the area. Dinner and drinks usually totals around $45 a person.
6100 Annunciation Street • Tel 504.895.1111

Jaeger's Seafood & Beer Garden
Lakefront locals and college students guzzle beer and munch on boiled crawfish. Most of the seafood isn’t stellar, but it’s fried, cheap, and there’s a whole lot of it. You need to order your food at the counter, so this is not a place to impress your sweetheart, but a great place to mingle and enjoy good cheap eats by Lake Pontchartrain
1928 West End Parkway • Tel:504-283-7585

Ninja's
Japanese fare in a converted house in Carrollton.  The service isn’t always so swift and the décor is plain but with a variety of great sushi and affordable choices at about $20 per head it’s a good experience overall.
8118 Jeanette Street • Tel 504.866.1119

Crozier's
This French restaurant in the Metairie section of New Orleans offers the classics, but it is often overlooked due to its location in a shopping center. Those who enter are pleasantly surprised by the authentic bistro fare and helpful, attentive service.  Most meals are about $35 per person.

Cafe Giovanni
The service and Italian fare are very solid here, with inventive appetizers and specialties as well as many traditional favorites. But for those who need something extra in a dining experience, Café Giovanni has opera singing waiters. Make dinner reservations for Wednesday, Friday or Saturday night and you’ll be serenaded while you order. Most meals will cost around $35 a person.
